Brian Freeborn is an established winemaker on California’s Central Coast and owner of Freeborn Wines. Brian began his venture in the lustrous wine industry of California in 1997, assisting in wine production for Fess Parker Winery. While at Fess Parker, Brian’s focus was making Central Coast & Estate wines, particularly Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Rhone wines. Brian has continued to assist wine production at Fess Parker intermittently throughout the years but has earned invaluable experience at many Central Coast wineries.
Brian has worked for Bridlewood Winery in the Santa Ynez Valley AVA, focusing on Central Coast & Estate wines, such as Syrah, Reisling and Vionier. He has also worked for Lucas & Lewellen in Los Alamos, CA, with primary focus on Estate Vineyard wines in both the Santa Maria Valley AVA and the Santa Ynez Valley AVA. Brian also assisted with Lucas & Lewellen’s additional wine label, Mandalina. He has worked with Kahn Winery, producing Santa Ynez Valley AVA wines, with primary focus on Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc varietals. He was privileged to assist Kahn Winery with their production of Sinatra Wines in 2001.
Brian became the head winemaker at Casa Cassara Winery, specializing in Santa Rita Hills AVA Pinot Noir. While at Casa Cassara, he helped to produce a custom wine for Fleetwood Mac. The label, ‘Mic Fleetwood’, was comprised of two varietals, a ’05 Santa Barbara County Chardonnay and a ’05 Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir. Brian independently tended a private vineyard in 2008 & 2009, Lebard’s Vineyard in Monterey County, producing Rhone wines, Zinfandel and Cabernet. Brian has since launched his own label, Freeborn Wines, sold all over the Central Coast of California. Brian has made private wine labels for Ron’s Nursery, Arroyo Grande, CA, A Dog’s Life, LLC, Long Beach, CA, sold Nationwide, and most recently for The Maverick Saloon, Santa Ynez, CA.
